THE Gorleston St. Andrew's 38th Competitive Festival will be taking place from March 3-15, with competitive classes being held in the Chapter House.Spokeswoman Margaret Jermany said: “If you are interested in music or speech and drama, then you would be very welcome to observe the competitors and listen to the comments of the adjudicators.

Spokeswoman Margaret Jermany said: “If you are interested in music or speech and drama, then you would be very welcome to observe the competitors and listen to the comments of the adjudicators. There is no charge for admission to these events and all the timings of the various classes are listed in the festival programme, price £2, which will be available at the Chapter House during festival time.”

The Festival will culminate with three final concerts when winning competitors will perform their successful entries and receive medals or trophies. The Senior Concert will be held at the Chapter House on Friday March 14, at 7.30pm, the Junior Concert will be held at Lynn Grove High School on Saturday March 15, at 2pm and the Recital Award and Bircham Award Evening will be held at the Chapter House on Saturday 15 March, at 7pm.

Ms Jermany said: “Audiences are extremely welcome to attend these three special events, when admission charges will be £2.50 for each concert, with accompanied children free. Tickets will be available on the door at each event.

“There will be five professional adjudicators for the competitive classes, Edwin Roxburgh, will judge woodwind, recorders, brass, and wind ensembles. He has had a lifetime of diverse activities of instrumental performing, conducting and teaching, and his principle profession, composing. “Kate Elmitt, judging piano, electronic keyboard and composition, gained numerous prizes and awards whilst studying and has been an examiner for the Associated Board for many years. Kay Tucker, judging strings, orchestras and chamber ensembles, is an accomplished cellist and combines performing with teaching, being much in demand as an adjudicator throughout the UK. “Louise Horrocks, judging solo singing, choirs and vocal ensembles, gives solo recitals and has sung as a soprano soloist in many different oratorios and other works, both here and in Europe. She has taught at the Birmingham Conservatoire, in schools and in private practice. Anne Harris-Norman, judging speech and drama, is an adjudicator for the Federation of Festivals and an examiner for the English Speaking Board and Guildhall School of Music and Drama.”
