A GROUP of six art and design teachers, above, from East Norfolk Sixth Form College in Gorleston have taken over the Stew Gallery in Fishergate in Norwich to showcase some of their own personal work. Martin Pigott, head of department, is exhibiting a set of his stunning panoramic photographs from Parys Mountain in Anglesey.

This mountain is heavily polluted by centuries of copper mining and is full of “other worldly” multicoloured rocks and lakes. Su Owen and Julie Bolus have presented two aspects of a joint trip to Japan. Su focuses on interesting background textures, with a mixture of photography, illustration and textiles. Julie's photographs are inspired by the streets and villages of Japan. Both artists' work reflects the juxtaposition of the country's traditions and its modernity.

Androulla Michael is exhibiting a fascinating set of photographic images derived from swabs used for removing make-up at the end of the day. These greatly enlarged images are full of rich colours and textures.

Joseph Cook's work is based on images created from turning discarded cola cans into “pin-hole” cameras to give a distorted view of the world as seen from a thrown-away object's perspective.

Jonathan Watts has based his work on the island defined by the rivers Yare and Waveney and the New Cut at Haddiscoe. Jonathan has spent a great deal of time over the last 18 months getting to know the island and those who live and work on it. He has documented his experiences in images, sounds and writing. This display includes a raft constructed from reeds and litter harvested from the island.

The exhibition is called Manifestations and is on show until August 21, from 10am to 4pm each day.
