One of Great Yarmouth’s biggest spectacles will be even more explosive upon its return this year.
The Out There festival sees 50,000 people line the streets of the seaside town, and flood into St George’s Park.
But the circus and street art festival will have some extra pep this year, as Great Yarmouth is part of the six UK towns and cities to be flagship locations for Circus250.
Circus 250 is a UK-wide celebration of the first ever circus anywhere in the world.
And this year, Great Yarmouth groups and individuals have the chance to get involved.
French street art titans Générik Vapeur will be returning to Great Yarmouth, and will be creating a special Circus250 version of their legendary show Bivouac.
They want 250 local people to join in, either as individuals or in special interest groups which can be incorporated into the performance.
Joe Mackintosh, director at SeaChange, which organises the festival, said: “Whatever you do and whatever your skills, you can join us in celebrating 250 years of circus with this amazing show, created especially for Great Yarmouth.
“Do you sing in a choir, dance, play music, knit, paint, do martial arts, cycle, play a sport or climb? Are you a group of nurses, builders, plumbers, gardeners, friends? It doesn’t matter what you do, your group can be incorporated into this spectacular.”
The performance will see men and women painted blue run through the streets, amidst pyrotechnics, smoke and fire, banging oil drums as they go.
Volunteers will be required to attend a handful of workshop sessions and rehearsals with the creative team at Générik Vapeur in the fortnight leading up to the show, as well as the performance itself.
Mr Mackintosh said: “There are no special skills needed just a willingness to take part.”
The 2018 Out There Festival takes place all over Great Yarmouth town centre and seafront, from September 14 to 16.
