JOIN us for some festive fun! That was the message this week from stars of Lowestoft’s Christmas pantomime who are hoping the public will show their support for the town’s Marina Theatre by turning up in great numbers for the show which opens tomorrow.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of the most lavish panto productions ever to be staged in Lowestoft.

Its stars include Stefan Booth, of BBC television’s EastEnders, Nikki Kelly, of Hi De Hi fame, and Big Breakfast’s Mike “Squeaky” McClean. There is also a strong local connection, with Ipswich-born actress Victoria Scott in the role of Snow White.

“I cannot believe the council here would ever think of changing the theatre,” said Mike, who’ll be providing many of the show’s comical moments. “It is a real gem and one we are all looking forward to playing in over the next few weeks.”

The cast took a break from dress rehearsals this week to tell the Mercury how things have been going.

Victoria said she was looking forward to playing the title role.

“It is a lovely role to play and even more special that we are here in Suffolk so that my family and friends will be able to come along and enjoy the show,” she said.

While Stefan Booth may still be appearing regularly in EastEnders over the Christmas period, his scenes were shot a few weeks ago, and he is fully committed to the pantomime.

“Everyone has had a great time in rehearsals and although it has been hard work it has been a lot of fun and I believe this will come across to the audience,” he said.

“There is such a variety of talent in the show including a superb aerial act and fire eating as well as plenty of drama and comedy.”

He was backed up by Nikki Kelly who earlier this year starred in the stage production of Hi De Hi at the Marina.

“We have all become great friends and are determined to give Lowestoft a pantomime to be proud of,” she said.

Although the story of Snow White is well known, the cast members pointed out a number of surprises had been written into the script.

“Snow White is a classic, of course, but there will be some things the audience will not be expecting,” said Stefan.

“I can’t wait to see this wonderful theatre full and enjoy the intimate atmosphere that everyone speaks of here.”

Meanwhile, the Marina’s manager Martin Halliday is delighted with the production.

He said: “The sets and costumes are so good and we are very fortunate to have such a wonderful cast, director, producer and choreographer.

“It is also realy good to see local dancers being on stage with a professional cast. This is superb family entertainment at its best,” he said.
