SEVENTIES and eighties favourite Alvin Stardust is to appear in his own show at the Britannia Theatre, Great Yarmouth in July. Alvin was born Bernard Jewry in London and originally found fame as Shane Fenton with his backing group the Fentones.
SEVENTIES and eighties favourite Alvin Stardust is to appear in his own show at the Britannia Theatre, Great Yarmouth in July.
Alvin was born Bernard Jewry in London and originally found fame as Shane Fenton with his backing group the Fentones. They also appeared in the Billy Fury film of Play it Cool in 1962 before Billy appeared in summer season in Yarmouth
Then Alvin Stardust became a hit making artist in the 1970s in the glam-rock era with songs including Jealous Mind and My Coo-ca-choo . He later re-emerged in the 1980s with melodic songs like I Feel Like Buddy Holly and I Won't Run Away
He is now well respected in the theatre world too, playing West End and national theatre tours in parts ranging from Jesus in Godspell, Uriah Heap in David Copperfield, The Maquis of Queensbury in Oscar Wilde, The Phantom and the Childcatcher in The London Palladium's production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The forthcoming UK tour will be the first one since the early 1970s that Alvin has toured alone. The Britannia Theatre show is to be staged on Tuesday July 29, tickets £7.50 to £14.50, tel: 01493 842209.
