Performing Shakespeare in complete darkness is certainly one way to put the Bard’s famous words centre stage.

And that is what London Contemporary Theatre hopes will happen when it performs ‘the Scottish play’ in Great Yarmouth tomorrow (Saturday).

The innovative show is coming to St George’s Theatre following a sell out tours in 2013 and run at London’s St James Theatre.

The unique retelling of Macbeth will be performed in the round and in darkness. Audiences will be able to feel every treacherous moment and the suspense build, while learning what it’s like to never quite know who’s watching you as the plot thickens into darkness and despair.

The cast features Calum Hughes McIntosh as Macbeth, Claire Cartwright as Lady Macbeth, Richard Holt as Banquo, Andrew Chase as MacDuff and Samuel Freeman as Malcolm.

London Contemporary Theatre’s show is fast-paced at only an hour long and has the production has been praised for racketing up the tension.

The company’s theatre administrator Mark Reed has said the show was a great way for younger audiences to be introduced to Shakespeare, but was also a unique experience for long-time Bard lovers who might have seen the drama many times before. Critics said watching Macbeth’s story unfold in almost pitch black surroundings added a new perspective - and allowing the power of William Shakespeare’s words to shine in the darkness, there are moments that send shivers down the spine.

The London Theatre Company uses live original music and was created to bring classical theatre to contemporary audiences, both on stage and radio.
