MARTHAM Local History Group is preparing to stage an exhibition in St Mary’s Church from June 2-5 to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and to illustrate the great changes that have taken place in Martham during the 60 years of the Queen’s reign.

The theme will be Then and Now.

A public meeting to help plan for the event will be held on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Martham Methodist School Room. Entry and refreshments will be free.

Organisers have written to all the groups in the parish asking if they have any photographs, documents, publications, artefacts and so on relating to the years 1952/3 that they could loan, as well as similar material and information about their present activities.

Those that have been formed since 1952 have also been invited to contribute. Interesting responses are reportedly being received.

Both individuals and organisations are invited to the meeting to share their memories and mementoes of Then and Now. Organisers hope to record memories of 1952/3 to playback at the exhibition. Where mementoes and photographs are too valuable or delicate to display they can be photographed and scanned.

The meeting will include a short talk by Jeremy Moore on the history of Morgrove, possibly the oldest settlement in Martham.
