FOLLOWING the Making Tracks concerts held at the Norfolk showground in 2008, the BBC concert orchestra will be returning to Norfolk in March to give four MusicMix concerts for more than 3,000 11-14 year olds from across the county.

MusicMix will be a live experience of orchestral music including participation by young people, and will go ahead on Thursday, March 18 at the Hippodrome Circus Theatre.

Presented by BBC Radio 1's Nihal Arthanayake and conducted by the Australian Matthew Coorey, the concerts will explore orchestral music from the eighteenth century to the present day.

Live images of the orchestra and film excerpts will be projected onto large screens, enabling the audience to see right into the heart of the orchestra.

The concerts include well-known works such as Mars from Holst's Planets Suite, and Prokofiev's Montagues and Capulets which is the theme for 'The Apprentice'.

Several local groups of young musicians will perform alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra, including a youth choir in the world premiere of Harry Patch by Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood, and a young rock band will perform One Day Like This by Elbow.

A choir from Flegg High School will be performing with the orchestra at the Great Yarmouth concerts. The audiences will also sing a new song, which teachers will help them to prepare through training sessions and learning resources provided in the project.
