TWO concerts featuring the Great Yarmouth Gilbert and Sullivan Society will be held this month and in April - but its music director said fresh blood is urgently needed.

Speaking on Radio Yare's Afternoon Delight programme, jointly produced by the Mercury, Peter Murray said: “We are looking forward to performing these concerts but we still need new members. Currently we have 25 but we are not able to perform complete shows. There would be no point in currently staging numbers like Three Little Maids Are We, because of the age of the society members.”

The first concert is to be held at St Catherine's Church, Ludham on Saturday, March 21 entitled A Feast of Gilbert and Sullivan and will feature extracts from the composers most popular operettas.

The second concert will be jointly produced with the Broadland Youth Choir at Great Yarmouth Town Hall on Saturday, April 25. This concert will also include some show music from West End productions including Cats.

Peter worked as a music director at the D'Oyly Carte in London for two years and also conducted the London Symphony Orchestra with two records entitled Switched On Sullivan in the same mode as the Hooked on Classics series in the early 1980s.

If you would like to know more about the Great Yarmouth Gilbert and Sullivan Society or would like to join, they meet at the Methodist Church Hall, Gorleston on Tuesday evenings or you can call Kevin Jeckells on 01493 661976.
