Bands playing across the borough

FIFTIES and 60s rock’n’roll band The Revolves have two local gigs this weekend. Tonight they are at the Prince Regent in Great Yarmouth, and you can see them at The Turnstone in Hopton tomorrow night. The band will be playing covers by artists such as Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Rolling Stones, Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles and Johnny Cash.

l The local Out of the Ashes band are making a welcome return gig to Caister Community Centre tomorrow at 8.30pm, performing a mix of 60s rock ‘n’ roll, pop, country, skiffle etc. To book the band call 01502 733747.

l Club Uniquity in Somerleyton will be hosting a range of original talent this evening.

With music ranging all the way from folk to rap, artists will be playing from 8 to 11pm at the Duke’s Head. In the free event Crumbs for Comfort, Sam and Daidy, Dave and Boweevil, Samuel Anna and MC Hattrix will all be performing.

l South Walsham will see a performance of The Clarinet Connection at St Lawrence’s Centre for Training and the Arts tomorrow.

The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, includes Andrew McCullough on clarinet, Peter Ayers on accordion and Christopher Finch on double bass, presenting a programme of tangos, waltzes, sambas and classics.

l Gorleston band The Doggett Brothers will be returning home following a run of successful gigs in London and Norwich.

The five-piece, influenced by Jamiroquai, Incognito and Stevie Wonder among others, will be playing the Bandstand on Gorleston seafront on July 16 at 2pm.

This gig will be followed by a performance at Beluga in Norwich on August 25 and a trip to Leeds to play at The Wardrobe on September 3.

The band moulds elements of nu-beat, soul, Latin, jazz and funk into an original sound.

In 2009 they released their debut album Tokyo, which has been picked up by stations such as Jazz FM, Solar Radio, Zero Radio, Kiss FM and by DJ’s such as Snowboy.

The first single Azure Sky subsequently featured on the Soul Unsigned Vol 4 compilation.
