A week on the broads and three holiday park mini-breaks are the top prizes at this year’s Caister Lifeboat Fete.

Many local businesses have donated prizes to the independent charity, which is throwing the boatshed doors open on Sunday, 10-4pm.

Last year the fete raised more than £12,000 profit for the Caister men who famously “never turn back.”

Stalham-based Richardsons Holidays has donated a week on a broads cruiser, and the holiday parks at Haven Caister, California Cliffs and Vauxhall Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth are offering caravan mini-breaks.

There’s also a chance to win a trip for two on Britain’s fastest all-weather lifeboat in the display exercise this Sunday afternoon.

And Iceni Marine Services, which was founded by Caister crewmen Guy Gibson and Richard Thurlow, is also offering a trip for four on a windfarm turbine boat to see the Scroby Sands Wind Farm close up.

Paul Garrod, chairman of Caister Lifeboat, said the prizes are among the best they have ever had.

“We’ve been so generously supported this year - as we always are,” he added.

“But this year the prizes on offer are superb, and there’s something for everyone.

“Every penny we raise goes to keeping the lifeboats in service and our crew trained in lifesaving skills.”

As well as the raffles, there’s a huge number of toys and gifts on the tombola stall, including days out and meals in restaurants.

And the lifeboat crew will be manning the grills and fryers, cooking up herring, burgers, hot dogs and chips.

Live music with Hank Bemarvin and Adam Harrod and a fully licenced bar will ensure everyone is entertained.

And for youngsters, children’s entertainer DJ Kev, a range of bouncy castles and an ice-cream van should mean smiles all round.

Mr Garrod added: “We have been so well supported by local businesses with everything we’re doing at the fete this year, and we couldn’t do it without them.

“The only thing we need now is good weather, and lots of visitors!”
