EDP antiques columnist and broadcaster Mike Hicks sprang a surprise at the Great Yarmouth Society of Artists annual art exhibition when he gifted a new award at the pre-show gathering at the Library Galleries in Tolhouse Street.

A long time supporter of the society, Mr Hicks’ new award, the “Jubilee Trophy”, is to encourage contemporary art and the picture must be “of today” (ie modern). It will be presented annually.

After much deliberation Mr Hicks decided the trophy should go to Susan Marshall for her mixed media work entitled “Jack”, depicting a port scene.

The exhibition runs at the library daily (10am to 4pm) until tomorrow, September 15, closing at 1pm.
