THE public performance season of exam pieces for students from the Performing Arts Department at East Norfolk Sixth Form College is now well underway with the first of two programmes from the AS Drama and Theatre Studies students.
Faculty secretary Rachel Walsh said: “Over a two week period the students are required to put on four performances of each of four sections of a play cycle, Tantalus, by John Barton which uses the stories of the Trojan War to explore contemporary issues such as discrimination, pollution, violence, sex, homelessness and faith. Tantalus is a series of ten one-hour long plays which was first brought to the stage in 2000 by Sir Peter Hall.”
She added: “This was followed by Priam, set in Troy as they struggle to understand the apparent withdrawal of the Greek forces and the arrival of the wooden horse. Alexander Read gave us a convincing performance as King Priam, innately suspicious of the Greeks but fearing the displeasure of the gods if he rejects the gift. Next week there are two more plays from the cycle with this week's members of the chorus taking on the major roles.”
