One of the most exciting up-and-coming rap singers in Britain is coming to Great Yarmouth in June to perform at one of its newest seafront bars and clubs.

Professor Green, who is storming the charts with his reworked version of Australian rock band INXS's classic, I Need You Tonight, will be appearing before up to 450 fans at The Residence on June 5.

The booking comes three months after The Residence opened its doors on Marine Parade.

Since it opened, The Residence has hosted local bands, and its owner, David Ball, hopes other top acts such as Snap, famous for 1990s hit The Power, will follow in Professor Green's footsteps.

Mr Ball, who owns Yarmouth's Aura bar and restaurant, said: “After focusing on local bands we have now started to book some major acts for the summer season. Since we opened it has been going very well, and we are building up our customer numbers week on week.”

Local bands such as The Floating Greyhounds, Catch 22 and Canine Feline are also due to appear at The Residence in the next few months.

The Residence is leased by Mr Ball from its owner, impresario Peter Jay. The building dates back to the 1890s, and in the past it has been The Aquarium and Rosie's nightclub.

Tickets for the Professor Green gig cost 6, available from www.theticketsellers.co.uk (type in Professor Green in the search box).
