GORLESTON's teenage rock band Basset will get its big chance when it opens the St Nick's Festival to be staged at St Nicholas Park, Great Yarmouth in mid September.

The opening slot at the festival became vacant when young band Tea and Biscuits became unavailable to play the event. Organisers launched a search to find a replacement. The answer was found in an article printed in the Mercury two weeks ago about young Gorleston band Basset.

Organiser Chris Anson said: “I went to see Basset at Hotshots in Northgate Street. I am in a wonderful position with what I do and have the power to make someone's day. I see I could make loads of peoples days here. So I did.”

Basset will take to the stage at 1pm on Saturday September 13. The Hi-Lights will open the second day on Sunday September 14 at the same time.

The St Nicks Festival is a fund raiser for the Town Centre Music Festival and will run from 11am-11pm on each day. There is a children's funfair, bouncy castles, stalls and a bar. Tickets are available from Better Leisure, King Street, Great Yarmouth and Music Lovers at Gorleston High Street and are priced at £8 each day.
