ORGANISERS of the Fireball Rock'n'Roll Club in Lowestoft are hopeful of making the Saturday night hops a regular date and have already booked another band for May following a sell out earlier in March.

Club organiser Jon Wright and associate Ian Soames had popped in to Radio Yare's Afternoon Delight programme to talk about the first gig which featured the Sundowners and himself as DJ Shades.

On Saturday, more than 150 revellers packed in to the venue at Lowestoft Town Football Club for an evening of good rocking, toe-tapping sounds.

Jon, from Great Yarmouth, said: “We were very pleased at the turnout for our first evening and we have now booked a second band on Saturday, May 9 and invited the group the Hicksville Bombers. Rock'n'Rollers in this region will know this Lincolnshire based group. They've been performing for 18 years.”

Jon and Ian chose the right afternoon to visit the radio programme as a pre-recorded interview with the original Little Miss Dynamite, Brenda Lee was also broadcast.

On the programme, jointly produced by the Mercury, she said that she owed much of her success to veteran record producer Red Foley. The 64 year old American songstress had a number of hits throughout the 60s including All Alone Am I, Sweet Nothins' and Emotions. She has a new album out on April 14 entitled Queen of Rock'n'Roll.

Brenda married sweetheart and Ronnie and have two daughters, Julie and Jolie, and two granddaughters. Julie was born in 1964 and was married in October 1986. Jolie was born in 1969 and married in January 1993. Both granddaughters were born on November 12 - one in 1988 and the other in 1996.
