THE Room music event based on and inspired by Jools Holland's Later format returns next Saturday for its second season.

The eclectic event held at the Ocean Room in Gorleston is the creation of event organiser Howard Marshall and last year featured over fifty different acts spanning music genres from rock to indie pop, skiffle and jazz fusion.

The concept for 2008 is broadly the same with organisers adding more covers “to break up the night and boost the party atmosphere.” Also more performers are being added to stage four with extra acoustic acts giving a greater scope of music styles.

Next Saturday's opening night features Gorleston band Rivers whose mix of original tracks written by brothers Jake and Dave and cover versions of Foo Fighters, Chilli Peppers and Oasis style tracks are a firm favourite.

Meanwhile stage two is set to welcome the Ipswich and Cambridge based jazz funk fusion band Juice Loose, featuring Rick Hudson on drums, Tiago Coimbra on bass and recently recruited Phil Stevenson, described by Tim Ainslie of Swagger and Groove Doctors as an amazing guitarist.

Stage three features Norwich based indie pop band the Unremarkables who are signed to NR One records and who play extensively on the Norwich circuit.

Stage four, the acoustic stage, will see three acts appear including singer songwriter and former vocalist and guitarist with the Open Shells, Graham John Stacy and songwriter and composer Allen Scott. Also appearing are Badly Worn Boys a trio of accomplished musicians who have found a curious pleasure in dissecting classic punk rock songs and arranging them for acoustic guitars. All three were around and playing during the punk explosion of the late 1970's and have joined forces to work with the music that encouraged them to pick up guitars and form bands in the first place.

Paul Wooden drummer with The Room's resident band met Jools Holland at a Somerleyton Hall gig last year and was able to tell him about The Room - a local version of his own Later show. Admission is £5 on the door, doors open at 8.30pm with the live show starting at 9.30pm.
