BUDDING sand sculptors are invited to Central Beach in Great Yarmouth on Sunday, from 10am for the third annual Master of the Sands competition.

Buckets, spades and loads of imagination are all that are needed for individuals, pairs or groups who fancy competing for the title of 2009 Master of the Sand.

It is free to enter, and the all-day family event features a jam-packed day of entertainment and activities provided by Haven Holidays.

Simon Smith, an award-winning sand sculptor from Jersey, will be creating his own sand sculpture tomorrow and teaching at workshops on Sunday for people who want to learn more about the fascinating art of sculpting with sand.

For competition entrants, there are three team categories:

Children from 10 to 16 years

old.

Adults (team of four people).

Family (maximum of two adults and three children).

On arrival, each team will be assigned an area of sand to work with to create the most impressive sculpture possible. The judging will take place at 3pm.

The first prize of a week's family holiday at any Haven holiday park in the country is sponsored by the local Haven Seashore Holiday Park.

Last year's event saw a Winnie the Pooh sculpture taking the top prize, with a spaceman coming close second.

The previous year saw fairytale castles, cars and even a huge sand foot in a flip-flop carved in sand, showing just what could be achieved with imagination, creativity, sand and a bucket and spade!

So, let your imagination run wild and get sculpting.
