MEMBERS of Dusmagrik Young People's Theatre Company are about to start rehearsals for their next production, Pinocchio, to be staged in the spring.
The musical version of the fairytale will be presented at Gorleston's Pavilion Theatre from April 16-18. The company's last show, Les Misrables School Edition raised more than 800 for Children in Need and broke all box office records for the group.
Director of the show Mary Carter said: “I was so proud of every member of the cast and delighted that their efforts were recognised, not only in the review from experienced theatre critic Tony Mallion, but in letters to the Mercury from members of the public. It was a risk putting on such a well-known show but it paid off. Everyone involved gained so much from the experience”.
Pinocchio tells the story of the puppet who longs to be a real boy and is based on the tale by Italian writer Carlo Collodi.
The Gorleston-based young people's theatre company holds weekly workshops for six to 18-year-olds. Split into two age groups, the workshops are mostly drama based but do include some singing and dancing. The group usually presents two shows a year at the Pavilion Theatre with a professional musical director and live music.
There are spaces for juniors aged six to 11.
