Roll up, roll up for Hopton’s 10th anniversary Summer Fete and Carnival on Sunday, August 21.

The fete has a musical theatre theme so visitors will have the chance to bang drums, sing along to songs and dance to well-known music from such productions as Cats, Lion King and Chicago.

The walking parade starts at 10.30am from Warren Road led by the Carnival King and Queen, Beau Lincoln and Leah Hurkett, from Hopton CE Primary School. Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Cllr Malcolm Bird, will officially open the fete at 11am on the recreation ground and judge the colourful outfits worn in the procession.

Acapella group The Testostatones will perform in the arena as the fete gets underway with performances TS Norfolk, The Mirage Eastern Dance Group, Edward Bates and Laura Frosdick and Phoenix Karate performing throughout the day. Frankie’s Guys from Potters Theatre Company will be closing the show at 3.30pm with an excerpt from The Jersey Boys.

Inside the flower marquee, local clubs and individuals will have flower arrangements in the competition, with judging at 1pm. Alan Gray of East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens and Radio Norfolk’s Garden Party will give a flower arranging demonstration starting at 2pm. Seats are limited at £2 per ticket.

There are children’s colouring competitions, a giant raffle, pony rides, swing boats, go-karts, traditional funfair rides, stalls raising money for local charities, Razz and Auntie Pearl childrens’ entertainers, refreshments, beer tent for the adults and Buzby from Potters who will oversee the event as MC.

Entry to the fete is free but collection bucket donations are welcome along the carnival route and at entrances to the field.

The fete is organised by the Great Yarmouth Lions Club and Hopton-On-Sea Parish Council and the event is supported by the Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area Ltd.
