St George’s Theatre is teaming up with local comedy promoters Weird Coastal Buoys Comedy to find the next shining star of comedy.

The Buoys run a regular comedy night at St George’s and forthcoming acts include stars of TV, radio and the international comedy circuit such as Bob Mills, Jimmy Cricket and Arthur Smith.

Previous acts have included Live at the Apollo and 8 out of 10 Cats star Katherine Ryan, Joel Dommett and Karl Donnelly.

However, on January 8 the very same stage will showcase the best of up and coming acts from Norfolk and beyond in a bid to unearth the next comedy starlet.

Paul Dunn, founder of the buoys said: “We have always prided ourselves on not only booking the best acts from the comedy circuit but also supporting new local comedy by giving them every opportunity to develop their comedy craft and perform alongside the very best.”

Budding comics are asked to prepare five minutes of material and email paul@wcbcomedy.com with details of how many gigs they have done (if any), provide a YouTube clip (if they have one) and prepare for comedy stardom.

The best act on the night will receive £50 cash and a promise to appear on the same bill as a seasoned comedy headliner such as Live at the Apollo star Mike Gunn who is appearing for Buoys in the new year in a season of second Thursday of the month comedy nights at St George’s in the new year.

The Buoys next comedy night features star of TV and radio veteran comic and renowned comedy genius Bob Mills who’s appearing on August 21.
