The event is part of the International Concert Series presented by SeaChange Arts and marks another first as it will be a Royal Gala performance in the presence of HRH The Duke of Kent.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see world-class musicians play a superb programme, mixing the best of Russian work with a magnificent Russian orchestra, and from England, perhaps the greatest “Cello Concerto” performed by its foremost living interpreter.
The programme begins at 7.30pm with Rimsky-Korsakov's Russian Easter Festival Overture, followed by Julian Lloyd-Webber with the Cello Concerto by Elgar. The evening will end with a performance of Tchaikovsky's last great work, the Symphony No 6 (Pathtique).
The Great Yarmouth International Concert Series 2009/2010 has been developed by SeaChange Arts to bring the very best of international orchestras back to Great Yarmouth and is part of the charity's work to support arts and culture in the borough.
Joe Mackintosh, SeaChange Arts Director said: “The Hippodrome is an amazing orchestral venue. During the 1960's and 70's there were frequent concerts by world-class orchestras at the Hippodrome, from the London Philharmonic Orchestra to the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra from Czechoslovakia. We are absolutely thrilled to have this prestigious world class series of concerts that will put the Hippodrome back at the forefront of regional orchestral venues and show the range of exciting cultural activity happening in Great Yarmouth.”
