The 23 year old Cambridge graduate is one of the rising stars of the British classical music scene and joins the Czech National Symphony Orchestra on Thursday in a concert at Great Yarmouth Hippodrome.
The violinist's model looks inevitably lead to a larger than usual number of female audience members, but those looks combined with his prodigious talent, has also resulted in a number of glamorous performances and collaborations. Charlie has been featured in Tatler and the Italian Men's Vogue, where he was photographed by Bryan Adams. The Canadian rocker then asked Charlie to join him for the Peace One Day Gala at the Royal Albert Hall where the two duetted on 'Heaven' in front of the likes of Cindy Crawford and Lennie Kravitz.
Rubbing shoulders with stars from the world of rock, movies and the catwalk is becoming second nature. In New York last year, Charlie performed exclusive recitals for Susan Sarandon and Salman Rushdie. He's also played at Vivienne Westwood's theatrical show, 'Chaos Point' while back in more traditional classical circles, Gabriel Prokofiev, grandson of the Russian composer, has even written music especially for him.
Born to a Norwegian father and British mother, Charlie first picked up the violin at age three. By 12, he had turned professional.
The talent comes with a good degree of work though, and he spends up to five hours a day practicing on his 1735 Guarnerius del Jesu 'd' Egville - a very special instrument, played by the great Yehudi Menhuin who first inspired the young Charlie.
Aside from rock stars, Charlie's been in demand from the top orchestras and has played with the Moscow Philharmonic, London Mozart Players and the Royal Philharmonic. He joins the Czech National Symphony Orchestra this week to play one of the most popular pieces from the classical music canon, Bruch's Violin Concerto No 1.
