IT MAY be months away yet but Gorleston-based Dusmagrik Young People's Theatre Company has big plans for its Children in Need show in November this year. Additional people are going to be needed so the company organised a special workshop in an effort to attract youngsters who would, like to tread the boards.

The company is hoping to bring to the stage Les Misérables, School Edition. This long established youth group has become well known for tackling difficult shows.

Spokeswoman Mary Carter said: “In 2000 they staged Barnum complete with tightrope, but this is probably the team's biggest challenge yet because musically it is so demanding. This is a specially arranged version of the legendary musical and has been released by Sir Cameron Mackintosh for performance by schools and youth groups. Schools in the Norwich area have performed the show, but we don't know of any schools or groups in the Yarmouth area that have done it. It is a wonderful show that requires a large cast so we are looking for additional new members.”

The company is inviting anyone aged between 12 to 19 who is interested in singing and acting to get in contact.

The workshop was led by John Stephens, a well-established musical director and teacher as well as being organist and choirmaster of St Nicholas Parish Church and conductor for the Great Yarmouth Choral Society.

More information is available by calling Mary Carter on 01603 716548. She is scheduled to appear on today's edition of Radio Yare's Afternoon Delight programme at 2pm. The programme is a joint venture between Radio Yare and the Mercury and can be heard on 1350 kHz AM or medium wave.
