Alice on the road again

PUBLISHED: 15:26 18 November 2010

WANDERING minstrel Alice Gold arrives in Norwich on Sunday in the latest stage of her eventful musical journey. The itinerant singer songwriter is currently supporting Athlete on the band’s national tour.

The gig at the UEA will see Alice showcasing songs from her debut album Seven Rainbows inspired by the experience of weaving her way on a six-month road trip across the United States. Recording and performing Alice travelled in an old winnebago won in a poker game.

Stopping in Nashville, Tennessee she performed gigs nightly. “I was just seeing the way musicians do things over there,” said Alice.

“The standard of performances are higher, even the small acoustic nights were incredible - unsigned artists really putting on a show and giving it their all.”

This was typical of Alice’s lust for life that has found her lodging in a Luxembourg castle, recording late at night and living on boat in London.

Working with producer Dan Carey the album tracks were recorded in double quick time. “Pretty much all the songs on the album are the ones that came quickly and were down in an hour or less,” said Alice.

“That’s when you know you’ve got something special. That’s what I’m always chasing. As soon as it becomes laborious, you’re losing something.”

Tickets for the gig on Sunday are available on 01603 508050 or online at www.ueaticketbookings.co.uk.
