A 70s and 80s party night to raise money for a Great Yarmouth charity is being held in August to build on the £5000 raised by four previous dance nights.

The party night, including soul and reggae music, will fill the dance floor at the Cliff Hotel, Gorleston, in aid of Great Yarmouth’s Centre 81 Skills and Activities Centre for people with physical and other disabilities.

Harbour Radio DJ Nev Moore will be at the decks on Saturday August 8 to boost the funds raised by previous sell-out events.

He will be bringing other Harbour Radio DJs - well known names from local clubs in the ‘70s and ‘80s – with him and a couple of ‘surprise celebrities.’

SpecSavers, Great Yarmouth, is sponsoring the event.

Julie Charles, skills and activities manager, organised the first party two years ago when Centre 81 chief executive Diana Staines gave her £30 and challenged her to raise £3000.

“I thought: ‘I like partying so I thought I’d organise one.’ The Cliff gave the venue for free and I got chatting to people and it turned into an ‘80s night. I spoke to one DJ and we then had eight and it was a sell-out.”

The first party night was as part of Centre 81’s 30th anniversary year of challenges and attracted 300 people.

“My aim is for people to be aware of Centre 81. Our members come along to them and completely enjoy themselves. It is so lovely to see people in wheelchairs enjoying themselves with club-goers. They can dance, have a laugh and have a good night together.”

Tickets are £5 and can be purchased from the Cliff Hotel, Harbour Radio, Specsavers in Great Yarmouth Market Place and Centre 81, Tar Works Road.

There will be a raffle with prizes including a pair of designer glasses from Specsavers.
