Date set for Gorleston in Gear

BUMPER crowds are once again expected as Gorleston gets set for next weekend's Cliff Top Festival.

Organised by Gorleston in Gear, the three day extravaganza from Friday July 31 to Sunday August 2 promises to provide an array of entertainment.

Organised by Gorleston in Gear, the three day extravaganza from Friday July 31 to Sunday August 2 promises to provide an array of entertainment.

Starting in 1997, the festival, formerly the Cliff Top Gala, attracted an attendance of 35,000 last year.

Revellers are invited to boogie on down to the opening 70s themed Wig Wam Glam night on the seafront.

Dust off the flares for the night featuring glam rock band Throb and Beach Radio's Steward Lee with all the tunes from the decade that taste forgot.

Tickets for the evening, starting at 7.30pm, are available £5 in advance by calling 01493 664140, £6 on the door.

The festival's popular Saturday sports day starts with the Park Run and includes beach volleyball, gymnastics, karate, basketball, football and table tennis.

The National Academy of Ballet will be demonstrating their skills and offering children's classes.

Popular live music slots showcase raw and upcoming talent on Saturday evening.

Young local band Project Cult, kick things off, followed by Mother Black Cap, The Divide and headliners Rivers.

Sunday is Gala Day with a variety of attractions, displays, stalls and organisations, spaced over twelve themed arenas.

The festival comes to a sparkling conclusion with the Grand Firework Finale, sponsored by GYBC tourism, at 10pm.

Arena 1 - floral and craft stalls.

Arena 2 -- Music acts; Eileen Mascoll, Badly Worn Boys, Tosh, Steemy Dan, sponsored by Ocean Room.

Arena 3 - Charities and organisations.

Arena 4 -- Get Active on the Trim Trail - with a variety of displays leading up to a Strong man competition at 1pm, sponsored by Top Bodies Gym

Arena 5 - The Beach Radio. Broadcasting live from the festival in the afternoon and back at 9pm in Arena 2 to pick a member of the public to set off the Grande Fireworks Finale.

Arena 6 - Fantastic Funfair.

Arena 7 - Static Display; featuring traditional vehicles, old and new and the East Coast Truckers and new this year Aquasphere balls.

Arena 8 - A Showcase of local and upcoming talent, including, newly formed Gorleston Community Choir, singers Hannah and Lauren, Street Dance Company and Jazz Saxophonist Fay Ainley.

Arena 9 - Rides/attractions

Arena 11 - Active Display area; including Tristar Twirlers, J. T's Line Dancers and Freestyle Dance Company.

Arena 12 - Helicopter rides operated by Sterling, £25 per person per ride, all day from 11am.
