The annual fun day at one of Norfolk's greatest seaside spots will return this year with an action packed programme.
The Great Yarmouth Fun Day will take place at the town’s racecourse on July 14.
The event began in 2015, and was organised in honour of Dylan James Sinclair after he passed away in March of that year from having the rare and fatal illness called Battens Disease.
All of the proceeds from the fun day are donated to a registered charity, BDFA (Battens Disease Family Association) which supports families of sufferers and funds research.
His father, James Sinclair said: “Dylan died when he was seven, and he had Battens and autism. One of the things he enjoyed most was seeing other children playing and having fun, and even if he didn’t join in, he loved to watch other happy children.”
Mr Sinclair, 32, said: “That gave me the idea for the fun day. I’ve always had whacky fund raising ideas and this is something he would’ve loved, and I’m sure he’ll be looking down, or joining us in spirit.”
The fun day has grown year on year since starting in 2015, with 8,000 people turning out last year.
“People come from all over,” Mr Sinclair said.
“A mum with a little girl who had autism came up to me last year and said what a wonderful day her child had had, and for her to say that to me makes it all worth it. I’ve never had any negative feedback- maybe only that it’s too hot!”
The support worker continued: “I think the main attraction this year will be the jousting, but we’ve also got other horse stunts, as well as local trade tents, a princess make over stand, and much more.”
Admission to the event is only £2, with children under six going free.
There is also free parking at the event.
Mr Sinclair added: “In the current financial climate I just want to offer everyone a great, affordable, family day out.”
