Latitude Festival is a bit different from your average gathering of music fans in a field.
Everyone is welcome: ravers, rockers and, of course, families.
And this year a rather famous rocker was rumoured to be making his way to the site. Liam Gallagher – former lead singer of Britpop legends Oasis – is believed to be on his way to Henham Park for a secret show later on Saturday.
He tantalisingly tweeted a Welcome to Suffolk sign, saying: “Lovely this time of year so I hear LG x”
But as day two got into full swing it was the children that were the stars on site near Southwold.
There are thousands of tiny revellers having a ball as the music blares out. Mum Jen Walker, from Norwich, has brought daughter Juliet to her first festival at the tender age of three.
She said: “Last year my friends and I came to Latitude and I left Juliet with my mum. I remember I got back to mum’s and said ‘next year we are all going’. So here we are.
“It is very child friendly. My friend lent us this special buggy to cart Juliet around in and that has been great. Basically yesterday we went down and found a nice spot and just stayed there.”
And the act the Walkers are most looking forward to? “Has to be the Killers. I am not sure Juliet will still be awake then though.”
American rock act the Killers will headline Saturday night with Alt-J taking top spot on Sunday. Friday’s highlights included Beyonce Knowles’ sister Solange topping the bill showcasing her critically-acclaimed album ‘A Seat at the Table’. Other acts that drew big crowds included The Charlatans, Belle and Sebastian and James.
Mother-of-two Catherine Shipley, 28, of Oulton Broad, was excited about the Gallagher rumours: “Wow – it would be massive if Liam played. A real treat. I have come just for Saturday because I really want to see the Killers but add a legend to that would be immense.”
But she was less keen about bring her children: “They are a bit young. I’ve left them at home with my husband. Maybe in a few years ... when they are 18.”
