THE STAGE is set for a show famed for bringing the glitz and glamour of West End productions to the east coast.

The Potters Leisure Resort annual charity show provides a chance for locals to enjoy the five star entertainment offered to guests.

Legends of Music, on Saturday, features numbers from some of the greatest stars from the past 40 years including Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Queen and Lennon and McCartney.

This year money raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Lifeboat.

All cash from ticket sales will be matched pound for pound by resort owners Brian and Judy Potter.

The show is performed by the Potters Theatre Company, a 45-strong professional entertainment team based at the leisure resort in Hopton.

Entertainment manager Nigel Pattle produces the show, which features song and dance routines at the state of the art Atlas Theatre.

“It is fantastic to see locals coming to watch the closest thing to a West End show they will get on their doorsteps,” said Nigel. “To open our doors and know that we are not only providing first class entertainment, but giving something back to the community is great.

“The regular guests have come to expect this standard of performance year in year out, but for local people, who have no idea what to expect, it is amazing.”

Principal female vocalist Leanne Mitchell will be showcasing her singing talents taking part in musical tributes to Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury and The Beatles.

“Singing in a show like this is quite demanding and I have to drink about three gallons

of water during the performance,” said Leanne.

“We always have very appreciative audiences for the charity shows and hopefully will get at good round of applause at the end.”

Theatre company manager and principal vocalist Sion Hathway has worked his way up from serving in the restaurant to singing in front of hundreds of people on stage.

Great Yarmouth dancer Zac Patterson is one of several local born performers at the leisure resort, a number that looks set to increase with the setting up of Potters Theatre School last year.

“I have always wanted to be a dancer and the charity show is a chance for friends and family to see me on stage,” said Zac.

“We spend seven weeks in rehearsals and do five shows a week performing everything from ballroom, swing and ballet numbers.”

Providing some Las Vegas- style wow factor, the Atlas Theatre features the biggest screen in East Anglia and a self-contained glass booth for the band, the only one of its kind in Britain.

Technical manager Paul Firminger said: “The audiences see the glitz and glamour, but the cogs of the engine are hidden away back stage and never seen.

“Just as much goes into the technical rehearsing, set building, musical arranging and sound and lighting as the stage performances.”

Legends of Music starts 3pm with doors opening at 2.15pm. Adult tickets start at £15, £7.50 for children under

16-years-old. Corporate guests are asked to donate £20 per ticket.
