THIS Sunday's concert at Milestones Jazz Club features the return of young musicians described by critics as “charter members of a new British jazz movement” - Patrick Naylor's Soundial.

Electric and acoustic guitarist Patrick Naylor is a very distinctive player and composer who has started to make a name for himself around London jazz venues, on T.V. and radio and as a session musician for Mercury Records.

Patrick's playing is influenced by guitarists like Ralph Towner, Bill Frisell and Pat Metheny and draws on a number of contemporary jazz, folk and world music sources.

Ports of call on Soundial's musical journey include Brazil, Jamaica, The Balkans, Turkey, South Africa and renaissance England to arrive at a unique European modern music, one that successfully balances composition and improvisation.

Joining Patrick will be saxophone and flute virtuoso Ian East, runner-up in the 1999 Perrier Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition while working with Steve Melling's band at Ronnie Scott's Club.

The band will be performing mainly original work from their most recent CD Afternoon Moon, as well as new music from their forthcoming album. All the band's CD's will be on sale at this concert.

The band's full line-up features Patrick Naylor (electric/acoustic guitars), Ian East (saxes/flute), David Beebee (electric bass) and Tim Giles (drums).

All Milestones gigs are held on the first Sunday of every month and take place at Hotel Hatfield, Esplanade, Lowestoft with the doors opening at 8pm, admission - £7 / £6 (concession).

Milestones Jazz Club takes place in a basement room that requires the use of stairs. If you have a disability please contact milestonesjazz@hotmail.co.uk or (01502) 568684 for more info and help in entering the building.
