Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is given a contemporary setting with the Bard’s own words at St Georges Theatre, in Great Yarmouth next month.
Second year performing arts students from Yarmouth College have a busy few weeks ahead of them as not only are they individually travelling all over the country auditioning for places at some of the top drama schools and universities they are also preparing for this production of their own.
As part of the RSC’s Dream Team initiative to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the college’s in-house theatre company, Triple T Student Productions bring their own contemporary spin on the bard’s comedy.
The students’ production follows the traditional story of order and disorder, reality, appearance, love and marriage, using the original Shakespearean dialogue but with a 21st century setting involving nightclubs, cocktails and an intriguing set of bouncers to bring it bang up to date.
Course leader and show director, Nick Ball said: “The students have really immersed themselves in all aspects of the production from set building, costume design through to marketing, as well as tackling the challenge of what, for some of them is their first time performing Shakespeare.”
The performance at St George’s will hopefully be the first of a number of venues around East Anglia that Triple T will be performing.
Tickets for the March 3 evening performance are available on 01493 331484 or online www.stgeorgestheatre.com.
