Danish MTB rescue showed real Christmas spirit

Two nice stories in last week’s Mercury. First was interesting comments from Bernhard Mabbett re First Bus and the Banana buses; the other was the lovely tale about the Danish MTB stranded on Scroby Sands in 1952 and how everyone came to the aid of the stranded seafarers.
Real Christmas spirit. I think I can remember walking home from the North Denes School and seeing the helicopter, like a small dragonfly landing on the playing field on Barnard Avenue bridge, also getting in trouble off my mother for being late home.
Another interesting topic to bring up would be the Ostende trawler, named Yarmouth also stranded on Scroby Sands I think in 1952/3.
This one did not get off and became quite a tourist attraction for local boatmen in the summer.
