One of the musical highlights of the year will see Great Yarmouth take centre stage for a night.

Audiences will be treated to an evening of waltzes, polkas and marches as the BBC Proms rolls into the Hippodrome, one of only two remaining permanent circus buildings in the UK.

The annual classical music festival will put on a concert at the venue on Friday, September 8, when the BBC Concert Orchestra, with conductor Anna-Maria Helsing and violinist Nathanial Anderson-Frank, present a programme of popular orchestral favourites.

Whirligig waltzes from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel and from Khachaturian’s ballet Masquerade set things spinning.

Written for a dance spectacle featuring 50 elephants, Stravinsky’s Circus Polka brings all the colour and wit of the big top, reflecting the Hippodrome’s original purpose as a circus venue.
