January is known to be the most difficult month in retail.

However, two new traders at the recently completed second phase of Great Yarmouth marketplace's upgrade say business continues to pick up.

Opening in late October, Foam and Fizz by Chris saw huge demand for its soaps, bath products and official Body Shop range.

"We started out selling a few bath bombs and here we are," she said.

"Trade has been really good. Christmas was fabulous. And even though it is January and trade is slow in general, I am doing twice as well as I was this time last year.

"I think it's a good sign."

After finding success with her pop-up stall, she joined other stallholders in the town's £4.7m revamped market.

"We get on really well with the other stallholders and it's a nice atmosphere here," Mrs Thomas said.

"I think people like seeing more new shops come to the town centre. We are getting returning customers, old and new. It feels great to be here."

A few units away from Mrs Thomas' stall is Just One Indian Street Food, selling freshly cooked curries, lunch buffets and spicy treats.

Owner and chef Shah Alam opened his takeaway earlier in January, having been previously located on Gorleston High Street.

"It's been a good few weeks and it's getting better and better every day," said Mr Alam.

"People love homecooked food. And they like to see what I am cooking.
