In the light of latest Government advice on giving pubs, clubs and theatres a wide berth and cutting back on human contact in public places event organisers across Great Yarmouth are taking the precaution of cancelling or postponing events.

To keep you up to date we are compiling a list of what isn’t going ahead which we will be updating as and when announcements are made to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Latest events cancelled in Great Yarmouth:

• 200th anniversary celebrations of Anna Sewell (March 28) at Kirsty’s Cakery in Church Plain, Great Yarmouth, have been cancelled.

• Art for Eyes (March 26 to 29), an exhibition and sale of 250 paintings donated by 60 artists at Great Yarmouth Minster has been postponed. The event was being staged to raise money for the JPUH eye clinic.

• All Parkruns across the UK have been cancelled until further notice which includes Yarmouth beach, Gorleston, Martham, and Lingwood. Organisers are warning against runners forming their own groups. There will be no volunteers manning routes on Saturday and at some there may be a presence encouraging people to keep their distance if they do decide to step out.

• Great Yarmouth Racecourse has cancelled all horse racing fixtures from Wednesday March 18, all horse racing fixtures until at least the end of April. Any customers that have purchased tickets or hospitality for any fixtures during this time will be eligible to transfer their tickets to a future meeting or a refund, and are asked to contact the racecourse office directly via 01493 842547.

• Seachange Arts, based in The Drill House in York Road, has suspended all classes and events until further notice. The office will also be temporarily closed. Contact them via hello@seachangearts.org.uk

• Arc Cinema in Great Yarmouth has closed until further notice. A statement on its Facebook page on Tuesday (March 17) said: “To all our customers the safety of our visitors, staff and community is our top priority. So, in line with the latest advice we will be temporarily closed.”

• St George’s Theatre in Great Yarmouth is cancelling or postponing many of its shows. A statement on its website said it was contacting ticket holders. The theatre is hoping people will accept a credit voucher rather than a refund, or even donate the ticket price to help it through the coronavirus crisis.

• Pirates Live at Great Yarmouth Hippodrome (April 2 to 26) has been cancelled with acts due to fly in from around the world. Organisers are offering 25pc on top of ticket purchase price to those who opt for a voucher refund.• Great Yarmouth Easter Fayre (April 16 to 19)

The borough council announced it had been cancelled due to “national advice around gatherings.”

• Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea (March 22)

This was due to go ahead in the Town Hall’s Assembly Rooms. The borough council has said it will be contacting those who have pre-booked to offer full refunds.

• The Spirit of Enterprise Awards (March 27)

The glittering ceremony has been postponed.

• Julian Macey memorial exhibition (March 19 to 23)

The exhibition was due to be held at Yarmouth Library’s gallery and has been postponed.

• Christchurch in Great Yarmouth is closed until further notice.

• Potters Resort in Hopton has shut down completely.

• Great Yarmouth Arts’ Festival due to take place in June has been cancelled. Festival chairman Hugh Sturzaker said: “We hope that it may be possible to hold it in September but this will depend on the circumstances later in the year.

“For similar reasons, the awards competition for shops, businesses etc run by the Civic Society of Great Yarmouth will not be taking place this year but we will do so in 2021.”

• All activities at Reedham Village Hall have been cancelled until further notice including whist drive, over 50s club, music group, yoga

• The annual Tourism & Business Awards scheduled to be held on Tuesday March 24 at Great Yarmouth’s town hall have been postponed to a date to be arranged later on in the year.

• Norfolk Wildlife Trust is closing its visitor centres, hides and cancelling events to help fight the spread of coronavirus in Norfolk, but it is keeping its reserves open.

A statement said: “In light of the Government’s announcement that unnecessary social contact and public spaces should be avoided, NWT will from today (Tuesday 17 March) be closing its visitor centres at Cley and Salthouse Marshes and Weeting Heath and delaying the summer season opening of its centres at Holme Dunes, Hickling Broad and Ranworth Broad. The Trust has also cancelled all events in March and April and will be contacting those who have pre-booked to offer a refund.

• Great Yarmouth Chess Congress (April 25 to 26) at Great Yarmouth Racecourse has been cancelled. The Norfolk league has also been abandoned until the autumn.
